Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapist: Juliette Stewart

Juliette qualified as a Physiotherapist in 1979 in Arnhem, The Netherlands and combines her Physiotherapy with her Yoga Teacher Training (Anahata School of Yoga, Scotland, 2007) whenever appropriate.

Definition of Yoga Therapy:

“Yoga therapy is the adaptation of yoga practices for people with health challenges. Yoga therapists prescribe specific regimens of postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques to suit individual needs. Medical research shows that Yoga therapy is among the most effective complementary therapies for several common ailments. The challenges may be an illness, a temporary condition like pregnancy or childbirth, or a chronic condition associated with old age or infirmity.” – Yoga Biomedical Trust (England)

What sets this healing modality apart from others is the focus on linking movement to deep, rhythmic breathing. Another difference is the emphasis on relaxation.

A personalized program will be designed, which motivates you to practice on your own.

Yoga Therapy advocates believe that since yoga is a holistic discipline — teaching that the mind, body, and spirit are connected — Yoga Therapy can go beyond the results that are possible with Physiotherapy.

There is evidence that some yoga poses offer effective treatment for one of the most common complaints seen by physiotherapists…….. chronic back pain.
Some of the postures prescribed for this complaint are: Downward-Facing Dog for Osteoporosis, Twisted Triangle Pose for Piriformis Syndrome, and Side Plank Pose for Scoliosis.

By combining different techniques, such as massage, stretching, breathing etc. Yoga Therapy promotes specific changes in muscles, joints and organs, altering the vital functions of the body.

Massage, Reiki, Physiotherapy, Relaxation, Energy Medicine, Individual Yoga/Yoga Therapy sessions are available on a daily basis. For other Complementary Therapies or Services we can recommend highly qualified Therapists who are connected to, but not working at “Embrace”.
